〈（《東都事略·楊廷璋傳》：隰州闕守，乃請監軍李謙溥至隰，並人來圍其城，或請速救之，廷璋曰：「賊遽至，未必攻城。」 (The 《Outline History of the Eastern Capital》, biography of Yang Tingzhang, records that Xi Prefecture lacked a prefect and he therefore requested army supervisor Li Qianbo be sent there. When Northern Han forces came and besieged the city, some urged a rapid rescue. Tingzhang said: "The enemy arrived suddenly and may not necessarily assault the walls."

晉州節度使楊廷璋奏，率兵入河東界，招降堡寨一十三所。 Yang Tingzhang of Jin reported that he had led troops into the Hedong frontier and induced thirteen fortified strongholds to surrender.

〈（《東都事略·楊廷璋傳》云：父宏裕，少漁貂裘陂，有以二石雁授之者，其翼一掩左，一掩右，曰：「吾北嶽使也。」 (The 《Eastern Capital Miscellany》, Biography of Yang Tingzhang, relates that his father Hongyu fished as a youth at Diaojiuqi Pond when someone presented him with two stone geese, one wing covering the left and one the right, saying, "I am an envoy of the Northern Peak."

是年生女，為周太祖淑妃，明年生廷璋。）〉 A daughter was born that year—the future Lady of Cultivated Virtue of Emperor Taizu of Zhou—and Tingzhang was born the year after.)〉

《宋史·楊廷璋傳》：有姊寡居京師，周祖微時欲聘之，姊不從。 The 《History of Song》, Biography of Yang Tingzhang, notes that he had an elder sister, a widow in the capital; when the Zhou founder was still obscure he sought to marry her, but she refused.

令媒氏傳言恐逼，姊以告廷璋。 He sent the matchmaker back with words that sounded like threats; she told Tingzhang.

廷璋往見周祖，歸謂姊曰：「此人姿貌異常，不可拒。」 Tingzhang went to see the Zhou founder and told his sister on returning, "This man's bearing is extraordinary; you must not refuse him."

妃兄廷璋，蚤事太祖，即位累歷內職，出為晉州節度使。 Her elder brother Tingzhang had served the Emperor from early on; after the founding he held a series of inner-court posts before being appointed military governor of Jin.

拜妃弟廷璋為右飛龍使，廷璋辭曰：「臣父老矣，願以授之。」 He appointed the consort's younger brother Tingzhang as Right Commissioner of the Soaring Dragon. Tingzhang declined: "My father is elderly; I would rather the appointment go to him."
