梁禦若干惠怡峯劉亮王德 Liang Yu — Ruogan Hui — Yi Feng — Liu Liang — Wang De

若干惠字惠保，代郡武川人也。 Ruogan Hui, styled Huibao, came from Wuchuan in Dai commandery.

惠年弱冠，從爾朱榮征伐，定河北，破元顥，以功拜中堅將軍。 At twenty Gan Hui followed Erzhu Rong on campaign, secured Hebei, and defeated Yuan Hao; for this he was made general of the central guard.

及岳為侯莫陳悅所害，惠與寇洛、趙貴等同謀翊戴太祖。 When Houmochen Yue killed Heba Yue, Gan Hui joined Kou Luo, Zhao Gui, and others in raising up Grand Progenitor Yuwen Tai.

魏孝武西遷，除右衛將軍、大都督，進爵魏昌縣伯，邑五百戶。 When Emperor Xiaowu fled west, Gan Hui became right guard general and grand commander and was raised to Earl of Weichang with five hundred households.

從擒竇泰，復弘農，破沙苑，惠每先登陷陣。 On the campaigns that took Dou Tai, recovered Hongnong, and broke Shayuan, Gan Hui was always first over the ramparts and into the enemy line.

四年，魏文帝東巡洛陽，與齊神武戰於河橋，惠力戰破之，大收降卒。 In the fourth year Emperor Wen toured Luoyang and fought Gao Huan at Heqiao; Gan Hui fought fiercely, routed him, and took large numbers of prisoners.

及戰，惠為右軍，與中軍大破之，逐北數里，虜其步卒。 In the battle Gan Hui commanded the right wing; with the center he broke the enemy, chased them north for several li, and took their infantry.

時會日暮，齊神武兵屢來攻惠，惠擊之，皆披靡。 At dusk Gao Huan's men attacked Gan Hui again and again; each time Gan Hui drove them off in rout.

至夜中，齊神武騎復來追惠，惠徐乃下馬，顧命廚人營食。 At midnight Gao Huan's horsemen caught up with Gan Hui again; Gan Hui calmly dismounted and told the cook to serve a meal.

齊神武追騎憚惠，疑有伏兵，不敢逼。 Gao Huan's pursuers feared Gan Hui, suspected a trap, and would not come near.

惠性剛質，有勇力，容貌魁岸。 Gan Hui was forthright by nature, brave and strong, with a towering build.

十二年，東魏將侯景侵襄州，惠率兵擊走之。 In the twelfth year Eastern Wei general Hou Jing invaded Xiang Province; Gan Hui led troops and drove him off.

明年，景請內附，朝議欲收輯河南，令惠以本官鎮魯陽，以為聲援。 The next year Hou Jing asked to defect; the court planned to recover Henan and ordered Gan Hui to garrison Luyang in his existing office as a supporting force.

惠於諸將年最少。 Among the generals Gan Hui was the youngest.

惠竊歎曰：「親老矣，何時辦此乎？」 Ruogan Hui sighed to himself: "My mother is old—when will I be able to give her something like this?"

太祖聞之，即日徙堂於惠宅。 When Grand Progenitor Yuwen Tai heard this he moved the hall to Gan Hui's home that very day.

惠喪至，又臨撫焉。 When the funeral procession arrived he came in person again to comfort the family.

贈本官，加秦州刺史，諡曰武烈。 He was posthumously granted his former offices plus governor of Qin Province, with the posthumous name Wulie, "Martial and Fierce."

惠、德本以果毅知名，而能率由孝道，難矣。 Ruogan Hui and Wang De were famed for bold resolve, yet also lived by filial duty—no small thing.
