孟漢瓊被甲乘馬，召馬軍都指揮使朱洪實，使將五百騎討從榮，從榮方據胡床，坐橋上，遣左右召康義誠。 Meng Hanqiong donned armor, mounted his horse, and summoned Horse Army Commander Zhu Hongshi to lead five hundred cavalry against Congrong. Congrong was lounging on a camp chair on the bridge and sent attendants to summon Kang Yicheng.

端門已閉，叩左掖門，從門隙窺之，見朱洪實引騎兵北來，走白從榮，從榮大驚，命取鐵掩心擐之，坐調弓矢。 The main gate was shut; he knocked at the Left Flank Gate and peered through the crack, saw Zhu Hongshi leading cavalry northward, and ran to warn Congrong. Congrong was terrified, ordered iron breastplates brought and put on, and sat stringing his bow.

朱洪實，不知何許人。 Zhu Hongshi's origins are unknown.

秦王為元帥，以洪實驍果，尤寵待之，歲時曲遺，頗厚於諸將。 As marshal the Prince of Qin favored his daring; seasonal gifts outdid other commanders.

及朱弘昭為樞密使，勢焰尤甚，洪實以宗兄事之，意頗相協。 Under Privy Council commissioner Hongzhao's peak power, Hongshi treated him as kin and they largely agreed.

弘昭將殺秦王，以謀告之，洪實不以為辭。 Hongzhao told him of the plot to kill the Prince of Qin; Hongshi raised no objection.

及秦王兵扣端門，洪實為孟漢瓊所使，率先領騎軍自左掖門出逐秦王，自是義誠陰銜之。 At the assault on the Duan Gate Meng Hanqiong sent Hongshi's cavalry out the Left Flank Gate against the prince; Yicheng thereafter bore a grudge.

閔帝嗣位，洪實自恃領軍之功，義誠每言，不為之下。 Emperor Min's accession made Hongshi proud of commanding the troops; he would not defer to Yicheng.

是時，義誠與洪實同於庫中麵論用兵利害， Yicheng and Hongshi argued strategy face to face in the treasury,

洪實言：「出軍討逆，累發兵師，今聞小衄，無一人一騎來者。 Hongshi said, "We have sent army after army against the rebels; now at a small defeat not a rider returns.

義誠怒曰：「若如此言，洪實反也。」 Yicheng snapped, "Say that and you are the rebel."

洪實曰：「公自反，誰反！」 Hongshi shouted, "You are the rebel—not I!"

帝聞，召而訊之，洪實猶理前謀，又曰：「義誠言臣圖反，據發兵計，義誠反必矣。」 The emperor summoned them; Hongshi pressed his plan and said, "Yicheng accuses me—by his deployments he is the rebel."

閔帝不能明辨，遂命誅洪實。 Emperor Min could not judge; he ordered Hongshi killed.

既而義誠果以禁軍迎降潞王，故洪實之死，後人皆以為冤。 Yicheng soon surrendered the guards to the Prince of Lu; posterity called Hongshi's death a miscarriage of justice.

會與朱洪實議事不葉，洪實因厲聲言義誠苞藏之志，閔帝曖昧，不能明辨，而誅洪實。 He disputed strategy with Zhu Hongshi; Hongshi cried that Yicheng harbored treachery; Emperor Min, confused, could not judge and had Hongshi executed.

馬軍指揮使朱弘實以兵擊從榮，從榮敗走，見殺。 Zhu Hongshi of the horse guard struck Congrong; the prince fled, was caught, and died.

義誠已殺嶽，又以從榮故，與弘實有隙。 Having killed Yue, Yicheng hated Hongshi for Congrong’s sake.

湣帝即位，弘實常以誅從榮功自負，義誠心益不平。 When Emperor Min took the throne, Hongshi often boasted of the merit of killing Congrong, and Yicheng’s resentment deepened.

朱弘實見軍士無鬥志，而義誠盡將以西，疑其二心，謂義誠曰：「今西師小衄，而無一騎東者，人心可知。 Hongshi saw no fight left in them and feared Yicheng’s march west. He said: “A small defeat in the west, and not one rider comes east—the mood of the army is plain.

義誠怒曰：「如此言，弘實反矣！」 Yicheng snapped: “Talk like that makes you the rebel!”

弘實曰：「公謂誰欲反邪？」 Hongshi said: “Who do you call a rebel?”

湣帝召兩人，爭於前，帝不能決，遂斬弘實，以義誠為招討使，悉將禁軍以西。 The emperor called them in; they quarreled to his face and he could not judge. He killed Hongshi, made Yicheng pacification commissioner, and sent the palace army west.
