時粵匪复窺武漢,耕雲疏言:「武漢地踞上游,北窺關陝,南脅湖湘,東撼吳越,西製巴蜀,自古南北用兵,皆出死力爭之。 When the Taiping forces again threatened Wuhan, Gengyun wrote: "Wuhan commanded the upper Yangtze—overlooking Shaanxi to the north, menacing Hunan and Hubei to the south, threatening Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the east, and holding Sichuan to the west—and every north-south war in history had been fought to the death for this position.
