皇子河中節度使從珂奏：「臣今月五日，閱馬於黃龍莊，衙內指揮使楊彥溫據城叛，臣尋時詰問，稱奉宣命。 Prince Congke of Hedong reported: "On the fifth, while inspecting horses at Yellow Dragon Estate, commander Yang Yanwen rebelled and seized the city, claiming a proclamation order.

帝遣西京留守索自通、侍衛步軍都指揮使藥彥稠等攻之，仍授彥溫絳州刺史，冀誘而擒之也。 Mingzong sent Suo Zitong, Yao Yanchou, and others against him while naming Yanwen Jiang prefect to lure his surrender.

癸丑，索自通、藥彥稠等奏，收復河中，斬楊彥溫，傳首來獻。 On guichou Suo Zitong and Yao Yanchou reported recovering Hedong, beheading Yang Yanwen, and sending his head.

初，彥稠出師，帝戒之曰：「與朕生致彥溫，吾將自訊之。」 Before the march Mingzong warned Yanchou: "Bring Yanwen alive—I will question him myself."

彥溫既誅，從珂歸清化裏第。 After Yanwen's execution Congke returned to his Qinghua Lane residence.

楊彥溫據河中作亂，自通率師討平之，授河中節度使。 When Yang Yanwen seized Hezhong, Zitong marched against him, crushed the revolt, and was made commissioner of Hezhong.

初，自通既平楊彥溫，代末帝鎮河中，臨事失於周旋，末帝深銜之。 After he crushed Yang Yanwen, Zitong replaced the Last Emperor as governor of Hezhong. He handled affairs clumsily, and the Last Emperor nursed a deep grudge.

楊彥溫，汴州人，本梁朝之小校也。 Yang Yanwen was a native of Bian and had begun as a junior officer in the Liang army.

天成中，為河中副指揮使，及末帝鎮河中，尤善待之，因奏為衙內都指揮使。 During Tiancheng he served as deputy commander at Hezhong. When the Last Emperor governed there, he treated Yanwen with special favor and had him appointed chief commander of the inner guards.

長興元年四月，乘末帝閱馬於黃龍莊，據城謀叛。 In the fourth month of the first year of Changxing, while the Last Emperor was inspecting horses at Yellow Dragon Manor, Yanwen seized the city and rebelled.

彥溫報曰：「某非敢負恩，緣奉樞密院宣頭，令某拒命，請相公但歸朝廷。」 Yanwen replied, "I do not mean to repay your kindness with treachery. I am acting on an order from the Bureau of Military Affairs telling me to resist you. I ask only that you return to court."

明宗疑其詐，不欲興兵，授彥溫絳州刺史。 Mingzong suspected a ruse and refused to send troops. He appointed Yanwen prefect of Jiang.

初，彥稠出師，明宗戒之曰：「與朕生致彥溫，吾將自訊之。」 Before Yao Yanchou marched out, Mingzong warned him, "Bring Yanwen to me alive. I mean to question him myself."

及收城，斬首傳送，明宗深怒彥稠等。 When the city fell, they beheaded Yanwen and sent his head to court. Mingzong was furious with Yao Yanchou and his officers.

時議者以當時四海恬然，五兵載戢，蒲非邊郡，近在國門，而彥溫安敢狂悖。 Contemporaries noted that the realm was at peace and arms had been laid aside. Pu was no frontier post but lay at the capital's doorstep. How could Yanwen dare such madness?

彥溫愚昧，為人所嗾，故滅其族焉。 Yanwen was a fool used by others, and for that his whole clan was destroyed.

唯虔釗因避地以偷生，彥溫乃為人之所嗾，比諸叛臣，亦可矜也。 Only Qianzhao, who fled to preserve his life, and Yanwen, who was driven by others, deserve some pity when set beside the other rebels in this chapter.

王閱馬於黃龍莊，彥溫即閉門拒之，王止於虞鄉以聞。 While the prince exercised horses at Yellow Dragon Manor, Yanwen barred the gates. He camped at Yuxiang and sent word to the throne.

安重誨矯詔遣河中指揮使楊彥溫逐其節度使潞王從珂。 An Chonghui forged an edict and sent Yang Yanwen, a Hezhong commander, to expel the Prince of Lu Congke from his command.

以彥稠為招討使，明宗疑彥溫有所說，戒彥稠得彥溫毋殺，將訊之。 Yanchou was made pacification commissioner. Mingzong suspected coaching and told Yanchou to take Yanwen alive for questioning, not kill him.

彥稠希重誨旨，殺彥溫以滅口，明宗大怒，然不之罪也。 Yanchou pleased Chonghui, killed Yanwen to seal his lips, and Mingzong raged but did not punish him.
