二十八年，元文拜大學士，乾學子樹穀考選御史。 In year 28 Yuanwen became Grand Secretary, and Qianxue's son Shugu passed the selection examination for the censorate.

其子樹穀不遵成例，朦朧考選御史，明有所恃。 His son Shugu was irregularly passed in the censor selection, plainly counting on powerful protection.

乾學當逐出史館，樹穀應調部屬，以遵成例。」 Qianxue should be driven from the History Bureau and Shugu reassigned to a ministry post, as precedent requires."

詔乾學復奏，乾學疎辨，乞罷斥歸田，並免樹穀職。 The emperor ordered Qianxue to respond; he memorialized in his own defense, asked to be dismissed and sent home, and requested that Shugu be stripped of his post.
