此曹職司郊廟，昔魏王肅奏祀天地，設宮縣之樂，八佾之舞，爾後因循不革。 That bureau oversaw suburban altars. Once Wang Su of Wei had memorialized on sacrifices to Heaven and Earth, setting up palace music and eight rows of dancers; afterward the practice was followed unchanged.

太元立王肅易，當以在玄、弼之閒。 In the Taiyuan era Wang Su's Changes was established; it should be placed between Zheng Xuan and Wang Bi.

而王肅依經辯理，與碩相非，爰興《聖證》，據用《家語》，外戚之尊，多行晉代。 Yet Wang Su argued from the classics and opposed the great master; he produced Holy Evidence and relied on the Family Sayings. The honoring of maternal kin was largely practiced in Jin times.

臣松之以為陳群子泰，陸遜子抗，傳皆以子系父，不別載姓，及王肅、杜恕、張承、顧劭之流，莫不皆然，惟董允獨否，未詳其意，當以允名位優重，事蹟逾父故邪？ Pei Songzhi notes that for Chen Qun's son Tai, Lu Xun's son Kang, and others, the biographies all attach sons under fathers without separately recording the surname; Wang Su, Du Shu, Zhang Cheng, Gu Shao, and the like all follow this pattern—only Dong Yun does not. The reason is unclear; perhaps because Yun's name and rank were exalted and his achievements surpassed his father's?

鄭玄以為祧者文王、武王之廟，王肅以為五世六世之祖。 Zheng Xuan held that the tiao were the temples of Kings Wen and Wu, whereas Wang Su held that they were ancestors of the fifth and sixth generations.

是以泰始建廟，從王氏議，以禮父為士，子為天子諸侯，祭以天子諸侯，其屍服以士服。 Therefore, when the Taishi temples were established, Wang's proposal was adopted: by ritual the father had been a common officer while the son became Son of Heaven or feudal lord; sacrifice was performed with royal rites, but the impersonator wore an officer's garment.
