十七年，與將軍莽依圖圍平樂，戰失利，弘烈與互訐。 In the seventeenth year he joined General Mangyitu in besieging Pinglo. The battle went badly, and Honglie and Mangyitu exchanged accusations.

莽依圖自平樂退賀縣，又言糧乏，再退梧州，使弘烈所复郡縣盡棄於賊，因飭莽依圖圖效。 Mangyitu withdrew from Pinglo to Hexian, then citing lack of supplies retreated again to Wuzhou, leaving all the districts Honglie had recovered to the rebels. The court ordered Mangyitu to show results.

弘烈異軍特起，又與莽依圖相失，勢孤，遂困於承廕。 Honglie raised a separate force of his own and then lost contact with Mangyitu. Isolated, he was finally trapped by Chengyin.

十七年，將軍莽依圖徇廣西，以承業為新設援剿中營總兵，管副將事。 In Kangxi 17 (1678) General Mangyitu campaigned in Guangxi and appointed Chengye commander of the new Central Relief Battalion, acting at vice-commander rank.

鎮南將軍莽依圖自江西下廣東，駐韶州。 General of the South Manggitu marched from Jiangxi into Guangdong and encamped at Shaozhou.

十六年，上命顧八代傳諭莽依圖規复廣西，即留軍，從征廣西。 In year 16 the emperor sent Gu Badai to instruct Manggitu to recover Guangxi and ordered him to remain with the army for the Guangxi campaign.

巡撫傅弘烈為三桂將吳世琮所敗，莽依圖引兵與相合。 Governor Fu Honglie was defeated by Wu Sangui's general Wu Shicong, and Manggitu marched to join forces with him.

十七年，師進次盤江，與世琮軍遇，莽依圖病甚，以軍事屬顧八代； In year 17 the army advanced to the Pan River and met Shijiong's force. Manggitu was gravely ill and entrusted command to Gu Badai;

莽依圖疏言顧八代從征三載，竭誠奮勉，運籌決勝，請留軍委署副都統，參贊軍務，上命以原銜從征。 Manggitu memorialized that Gu Badai had served three years on campaign with utmost loyalty, planning and winning battles, and asked that he remain as acting Vice Commander-in-chief to assist in military affairs. The emperor ordered him to continue at his former rank.

十九年，莽依圖卒於軍，顧八代從平南大將軍賚塔下雲南，攻會城。 In year 19 Manggitu died in camp. Gu Badai followed Pacification of the South Grand General Laita south into Yunnan to besiege the provincial capital.
