魯悉達 Lu Xida

魯悉達字志通，扶風郿人也。 Lu Xida, styled Zhitong, came from Mei in Fufeng.

悉達幼以孝聞，起家為梁南平嗣王中兵參軍。 From boyhood Xida was known for filial piety. He first entered service as army supervisor in the establishment of Liang's heir Prince of Nanping.

侯景之亂，悉達糾合鄉人，保新蔡，力田蓄穀。 In Hou Jing's rebellion Xida rallied his neighbors to hold Xincai, farmed hard, and stored grain.

悉達分給糧廩，其所濟活者甚眾，仍於新蔡置頓以居之。 Xida opened his granaries. The people he kept alive were countless, and he set a camp at Xincai to shelter them.

敬帝即位，王琳據有上流，留異、余孝頃、周迪等所在鋒起，悉達撫綏五郡，甚得民和，士卒皆樂為之用。 When Emperor Jing came to the throne, Wang Lin controlled the upper Yangzi, and Liu Yi, Yu Xiaoqing, Zhou Di, and others rose in arms everywhere. Xida pacified the five commanderies, won the people over, and his soldiers were all glad to serve him.

琳授悉達鎮北將軍，高祖亦遣趙知禮授征西將軍、江州刺史，各送鼓吹女樂，悉達兩受之，遷延顧望，皆不就。 Wang Lin appointed Xida general who guards the north, while the Founder sent Zhao Zhili to appoint him general who campaigns west and inspector of Jiangzhou. Both sides sent pipes and drums and female musicians; Xida accepted both gifts, delayed and watched, and took up neither appointment.

齊遣行臺慕容紹宗以眾三萬來攻鬱口諸鎮，兵甲甚盛，悉達與戰，敗齊軍，紹宗僅以身免。 Qi sent Murong Shaozong of the mobile secretariat with thirty thousand troops to attack the Yukou garrisons. Their force was powerful, but Xida fought them, defeated the Qi army, and Shaozong barely escaped with his life.

王琳欲圖東下，以悉達制其中流，恐為己患，頻遣使招誘，悉達終不從。 Wang Lin wanted to move east, but Xida controlled the midstream and Lin feared he would become a threat. Lin repeatedly sent envoys to lure him over, but Xida never followed him.

悉達勒麾下數千人，濟江而歸高祖。 Xida mustered several thousand of his men, crossed the Yangzi, and submitted to the Founder.

悉達對曰：「臣鎮撫上流，願為蕃屏，陛下授臣以官，恩至厚矣，沈泰襲臣，威亦深矣，然臣所以自歸於陛下者，誠以陛下豁達大度，同符漢祖故也。」 Xida replied, "I guarded and pacified the upper reaches and wished to serve as a shield. Your Majesty granted me office, and the favor was generous indeed; Shen Tai attacked me, and the show of force was also severe. Yet I submitted myself to Your Majesty because Your Majesty is open-hearted and magnanimous, matching the Founder of Han."

授平南將軍、散騎常侍、北江州刺史，封彭澤縣侯。 He was appointed general who pacifies the south, scattered-cavalry regular attendant, and inspector of North Jiangzhou, and was enfeoffed as marquis of Pengze county.

世祖即位，進號安左將軍。 When Emperor Wen came to the throne, Xida was promoted to general who secures the left.

悉達雖仗氣任俠，不以富貴驕人，雅好詞賦，招禮才賢，與之賞會。 Though he lived by bold spirit and the code of the knight-errant, he was never haughty in wealth or rank. He loved verse by nature, gathered men of talent, and feasted with them on their writing.

贈安左將軍、江州刺史，諡曰孝侯。 Posthumously he was made secure-the-left general and inspector of Jiangzhou, with the posthumous name Marquis Xiao.
