父勉，宋末權貴，門多人客，使繪與之共語，應接流暢。 His father Mian, a powerful figure at the end of Song, had many guests at his door; he had Hui converse with them, and his responses were fluent.

勉喜曰：「汝後若束帶立朝，可與賔客言矣。」 Mian said with pleasure: "If later you gird yourself and stand at court, you may speak with guests."

太祖見而歎曰：「劉公爲不亡也。」 The Founding Emperor saw him and sighed: "Lord Liu is not dead after all."
