趙孝成王與平陽君、平原君計之。 King Xiaocheng of Zhao took counsel with Lord Pingyang and Lord Pingyuan.

趙王數以為讓。 The King of Zhao repeatedly reproached him for it.

趙王既怒廉頗軍多失亡，軍數敗，又反堅壁不敢戰，而又聞秦反閒之言，因使趙括代廉頗將以擊秦。 The King of Zhao was already furious that Lian Po's army had suffered heavy casualties and been defeated repeatedly. Moreover, he maintained a defensive wall and dared not fight, and he also heard the rumors sown by Qin's dissension. Therefore, he sent Zhao Kuo to replace Lian Po and attack Qin.

平原君相趙惠文王及孝成王，三去相，三復位，封於東武城。 Lord Pingyuan served as Chancellor to Kings Huiwen and Xiaocheng of Zhao. Three times he stepped down from the chancellorship, and three times he was restored to his post. He was eventually enfeoffed at Dongwu City.

且王舉君而相趙者，非以君之智能為趙國無有也。 Moreover, when the King raised you to be Chancellor of Zhao, it was not because your intelligence and ability were unique in the land.

平原君以趙孝成王十五年卒。 Lord Pingyuan died in the fifteenth year of the reign of King Xiaocheng of Zhao.

躡蹻檐簦說趙孝成王。 In straw sandals, with an umbrella slung over his shoulder, he went to persuade King Xiaocheng of Zhao.

趙王召樓昌與虞卿曰：「軍戰不勝，尉復死，寡人使束甲而趨之，何如？」 The King of Zhao summoned Lou Chang and Yu Qing and said: "Our army was defeated in battle and the commandant has again died. I wish to don armor and rush to the attack—what do you think?"

趙王不聽，與平陽君為媾，發鄭朱入秦。 The King of Zhao did not listen; instead, he followed Lord Pingyang's advice to seek peace and sent Zheng Zhu to Qin.

趙王召虞卿曰：「寡人使平陽君為媾於秦，秦已內鄭朱矣，卿之為奚如？」 The King of Zhao summoned Yu Qing and said: "I sent Lord Pingyang to sue for peace with Qin. Qin has already welcomed Zheng Zhu—what do you make of this?"

秦既解邯鄲圍，而趙王入朝，使趙郝約事於秦，割六縣而媾。 After Qin lifted the siege of Handan and the King of Zhao entered their court, he sent Zhao Hao to negotiate a treaty with Qin, agreeing to cede six counties in exchange for peace.

虞卿謂趙王曰：「秦之攻王也，倦而歸乎？ Yu Qing said to the King of Zhao: "When Qin attacked Your Majesty, did it return because it was weary?

王以虞卿之言趙郝。 The King told Zhao Hao what Yu Qing had said.

王以告虞卿。 The King reported this to Yu Qing.

趙王計未定，樓緩從秦來，趙王與樓緩計之，曰：「予秦地（何）如毋予，孰吉？」 King Zhao's plans were not yet decided when Lou Huan arrived from Qin. The king consulted with Lou Huan, asking: "Which is better—to cede territory to Qin or not to cede it?"

樓緩聞之，往見王。 When Lou Huan heard of this, he went to see the King.

王又以虞卿之言告樓緩。 The King again shared Yu Qing's arguments with Lou Huan.

趙王曰：「善。」 The King of Zhao said, "Excellent."

趙孝成王召虞卿謀。 King Xiaocheng of Zhao called Yu Qing in to discuss the matter.

虞卿入見王。 Yu Qing went in to see the King.

趙王及平原君自迎公子於界，平原君負籣矢為公子先引。 The King of Zhao and Lord Pingyuan came in person to welcome the prince at the border; Lord Pingyuan carried a quiver and arrows and went ahead to lead the way for the prince.

趙王再拜曰：「自古賢人未有及公子者也。」 The King of Zhao bowed twice and said: 'Since ancient times, no worthy man has ever equaled the prince.'

趙孝成王德公子之矯奪晉鄙兵而存趙，乃與平原君計，以五城封公子。 King Xiaocheng of Zhao, grateful that the prince had forged orders to seize Jin Bi's army and save Zhao, consulted with Lord Pingyuan and granted the prince fiefdom over five cities.

趙王埽除自迎，執主人之禮，引公子就西階。 The King of Zhao swept and cleaned the hall himself to welcome the prince, performed the rites of a host, and led the prince to the western steps.

趙王侍酒至暮，口不忍獻五城，以公子退讓也。 The King of Zhao served wine until evening fell, but could not bring himself to offer the five cities because of the prince's modesty.

趙王以鄗為公子湯沐邑，魏亦復以信陵奉公子。 The King of Zhao granted Xiang as the prince's fief for bathing revenues, and Wei also restored Xinling to provide for the prince.
