繇是疏太子而愛淮陽王，曰：「淮陽王明察好法，宜為吾子。」 Because of this he kept his distance from the Crown Prince and favored King Huaiyang, saying: "King Huaiyang is clear-sighted and fond of law—he should be my son."

上有意欲用淮陽王代太子，然以少依許氏，俱從微起，故終不背焉。 His Majesty had the intention to use King Huaiyang to replace the Crown Prince, but because he had relied on the Xu clan since youth and both had risen from humble origins, he finally did not turn his back on them.

淮陽王舅張博、魏郡太守京房坐窺道諸侯王以邪意，漏泄省中語，博要斬，房棄市。 Zhang Bo, maternal uncle of the King of Huaiyang, and Jing Fang, governor of Wei commandery, were convicted of spying on the feudal kings with evil intent and leaking palace secrets. Bo was condemned to beheading, and Fang was executed in the marketplace.
