十四年，康親王杰書破曾養性金華，复處州； In the fourteenth year Prince Kang Jieshu defeated Zeng Yangxing at Jinhua and recovered Chuzhou;

康親王師將行，問之芳：「所策固萬全乎？」 When Prince Kang's army was about to march, he asked Zhifang, "Is your plan completely secure?"

乃詣王曰：「虜在吾目中久，明日捷書至矣！」 He then said to the prince, "I have had the enemy in my sights for some time; tomorrow the victory report will arrive!"

前軍捷書果至，傑書大喜，以為神。 The advance army's victory report indeed arrived the next day; Jieshu was overjoyed and thought it miraculous.

康熙中，從康親王杰書軍南征，有功，當得官，尋棄歸。 During the Kangxi reign he marched south with Prince Kang Jieshu's army, earned distinction, and was offered an official post — but he soon gave it up and went home.

康熙初，耿精忠叛，犯浙江，康親王杰書南征，梓以布衣從軍，獻連珠火銃法。 In the early Kangxi reign Geng Jingzhong rebelled and invaded Zhejiang. Prince Kang Jieshu marched south, and Zi followed the army as a commoner, presenting his method of the linked-bead musket.
