高劭，字子將，淮南節度使駢之從子也。 Gao Shao, who styled himself Zijiang, was a cousin of the Huainan commissioner Gao Pian.

唐僖宗避敵在蜀，駢鎮淮南為都統，兼諸道鹽鐵使，兵賦在己，朝廷優假之，以故劭幸而早官，年十四遙領華州刺史。 While Xizong sheltered in Shu, Pian ruled Huainan as supreme commander and salt-and-iron commissioner with troops and taxes in his fist; the court indulged him, and Shao at fourteen was given distant command as prefect of Hua.

光啟中，以駢命遏晉公王鐸於鄭。 Midway through Guangqi he blocked Wang Duo, Duke of Jin, at Zheng on Pian's order.

俄代高駢領西川節度。 He soon replaced Gao Pian as military commissioner of Xichuan.

吏倚駢為奸利者，安潛皆誅之，數更除繆政，於是盜賊衰，蜀民以安。 He executed officials who had profited through Pian's patronage, repealed corrupt policies one after another, and banditry waned until the people of Shu lived in peace.

宰相盧攜素厚駢，乃誣以罪，罷為太子賓客，分司東都。 Chief Minister Lu Xie, who had long favored Pian, trumped up charges against An Qian and demoted him to guest of the heir apparent with duty at the Eastern Capital.

攜素厚高駢，屬令立功，乃固不可巢請，又欲激巢使戰而敗鐸，因授率府率。 Xie was close to Gao Pian and wished him merit; he firmly opposed Chao's request, also hoping to provoke Chao to fight and defeat Duo, and appointed him Rate-Setting Colonel.

又徇駢與南詔和親，與畋爭，相恨詈，繇是罷為太子賓客，分司東都。 He also indulged Pian in peace with Nanzhao; he quarreled with Tian in mutual hatred, and was dismissed to Palace Companion at the Eastern Capital.

會駢將張璘破賊，帝復召攜以門下侍郎同平章事。 When Pian's general Zhang Lin defeated the rebels, the emperor again summoned Xie as Vice Director of the Chancery and Grand Councillor.

及鐸失守，以駢代之，即按關東諸將為鐸、畋所任者，悉易置。 When Duo lost his post, Pian replaced him; he then reviewed eastern-pass generals appointed by Duo and Tian and replaced them all.

內倚田令孜，而外寄戎政於駢，與奪惟所愛惡。 Within he relied on Tian Lingzi, while outwardly he entrusted military affairs to Pian, appointing and dismissing as he pleased.

贊曰：盧攜之敗王鐸，私高駢，賊遂卷鹹、鎬而西，易若舉毛，可謂朝無人焉。 The appraisal says: Lu Xie's undoing of Wang Duo and private favoring of Gao Pian let the rebels sweep through Xian and Hao westward as easily as lifting a hair—the court had no one fit for the task.

都統高駢聞巢不敢犯臨安，壯之，召董昌與镠俱至廣陵。 Gao Piao, the overall commander, heard that Huang Chao had not dared to attack Lin'an and was impressed. He summoned Dong Chang and Qian Liu to Guangling together.

久之，駢無討賊意，昌等不見用，辭還，駢表昌杭州刺史。 In time Gao Piao showed no interest in suppressing the rebels, and Dong Chang and his men were given no role. They asked to leave and returned home; Gao Piao recommended Dong Chang for the post of prefect of Hangzhou.

是歲，畢師鐸囚高駢，淮南大亂，六合鎮將徐約攻取蘇州。 That year Bi Shiduo imprisoned Gao Piao, throwing Huainan into chaos. Xu Yue, garrison commander at Liuhe, captured Suzhou.
