縣吏左梅伯有叔富而無子，梅伯糾賊劫殺之，獲賊而梅伯逃。 Clerk Zuo Meibo's uncle was rich and childless; Meibo hired bandits to kill him; the bandits were caught but Meibo escaped.

士弘抵任，叔妻哭訴，陰跡梅伯匿安福勢宦家，故緩詞曰：「此舊事。 On taking office the widow appealed; he traced Meibo to a powerful Anfu household and said mildly, "This is an old affair.

數月，梅伯歸，叔妻复訴，置不問。 Months later Meibo returned; she appealed again and he ignored it.

梅伯且出收叔遺產，叔妻號於庭曰：「公號廉明，今寬殺人者罪，且佔寡婦田，何得為廉明！」 Meibo seized the estate; the widow cried in court: "They call you upright, yet you spare a killer and take a widow's fields—what uprightness is this!"

梅伯益自得，赴縣訴理，乃笑謂曰：「候汝三載矣！」 Emboldened, Meibo sued; Shihong smiled: "I have waited three years for you!"

梅伯遂伏法。 Meibo was executed.
