后從祖弟莊，清警有鑒識，太建末，為太子洗馬，掌東宮管記。 The empress's younger cousin Zhuang was clear-minded, alert, and discerning. At the end of Taijian he became crown prince's groom and managed documents in the Eastern Palace.

後主即位，稍遷至散騎常侍、纫尉卿。 When the Last Emperor came to the throne, Zhuang gradually rose to scattered-cavalry regular attendant and minister of the guards.

自盼卒後，太后宗屬唯莊為近，兼素有名望，猶是深被恩遇。 After Pan died, Zhuang was the empress dowager's closest kinsman, and because he had long had standing and reputation, he remained deeply favored.
