時周士隆上書論廣西、交阯事，請為車以禦象陣，文彥博非之。 Zhou Shilong then memorialized on Guangxi and Jiaozhi, proposing war chariots against elephant formations; Wen Yanbo objected.

安石以為自前代至本朝，南方數以象勝中國，士隆策宜可用，因論自古車戰法甚辨，請以車騎相當試，以觀其孰利。 Wang Anshi argued that since antiquity the south had repeatedly beaten Chinese armies with elephants and that Shilong's plan deserved trial; he also expounded classical chariot doctrine and proposed a chariot-versus-cavalry test.
