十五年，巡撫白色純及進寶先後卒官，參將周球領鎮兵。 In the fifteenth year Governor Bai Sechun and Jinbao died in succession; Deputy Commander Zhou Qiu assumed command of the garrison.

球以乏餉為難，紫綬集士商勸輸間架稅，得白金四萬畀球，餉以無缺。 When Zhou Qiu pleaded shortage of funds, Zishou rallied merchants to pay a building-frame tax, raising forty thousand taels for him so supplies never failed.
