昔智氏見伐趙之利而不知榆次之禍，吳見伐齊之便而不知干隧之敗。 In former times, the Zhi clan saw the advantage of attacking Zhao but did not foresee the disaster at Yuci. Wu saw the convenience of attacking Qi but did not foresee defeat at Gantui.

智氏之信韓、魏也，從而伐趙，攻晉陽城，勝有日矣，韓、魏叛之，殺智伯瑤於鑿臺之下。 The Zhi clan trusted Han and Wei and followed them in attacking Zhao, besieging the city of Jinyang. Victory was near, but Han and Wei turned against them and killed Zhi Boyao below the Zhi walls.
