時巡撫張聖佐坐譴，孟球護巡撫，曰：「南陽地連襄、鄖，急則鋌而走險，事未可知。」 Governor Zhang Shengzuo was under censure; acting in his place Mengqiu said: "Nanyang borders Xiang and Yun—push too hard and desperate men may turn violent; the outcome is uncertain."
