會駢將張璘破賊，帝復召攜以門下侍郎同平章事。 When Pian's general Zhang Lin defeated the rebels, the emperor again summoned Xie as Vice Director of the Chancery and Grand Councillor.

及巢破淮南，璘戰死，忠武兵亂，天下危懼，人皆咎攜，始下詔以巢為天平節度使。 When Chao broke Huainan, Lin died in battle, and the Zhongwu army mutinied; the empire was terrified and all blamed Xie; only then was an edict issued making Chao military governor of Pingyi.
