十二月戊子，以樞密副使張琳知樞密院事，翰林學士張奉三知政事兼同知樞密院事。 On wuzi day of the twelfth month Deputy Privy Commissioner Zhang Lin was made knower of privy council affairs; Hanlin academician Zhang Fengsan was made knower of government affairs and concurrently associate knower of privy council affairs.

十二月辛丑，以張琳為南府宰相。 On xinchou day of the twelfth month Zhang Lin was made Southern Court chancellor.

初，詔留宰相張琳、李處溫與秦晉國王淳守燕。 Earlier an edict had left chancellors Zhang Lin and Li Chuwen with King of Qin-Jin Chun to guard Yan.

處溫邀張琳至，白其事。 Chuwen invited Zhang Lin and informed him of the matter.

琳曰：「攝政則可。」 Lin said, "Regency would suffice."

以處溫守太尉，左企弓守司徒，曹勇義知樞密院事，虞仲文參知政事，張琳守太師，李處能直樞密院，李奭為少府少監、提舉翰林醫官，李爽、陳秘十餘人曾與大計，並賜進士及第，授官有差。 Chuwen was appointed acting Grand Commandant; Zuo Qigong, acting Minister over the Masses; Cao Yongyi, director of privy council affairs; Yu Zhongwen, assistant director of state affairs; Zhang Lin, acting Grand Preceptor; Li Chuneng, attendant of the privy council; and Li Shi, junior director of the court of imperial manufactories and supervisor of the Hanlin medical officers. Li Shuang, Chen Mi, and more than ten others who had participated in the great plan were all granted the presented scholar degree and appointed to offices of varying rank.

蕭奉先李處溫張琳耶律余睹 Xiao Fengxian, Li Chuwen, Zhang Lin, and Yelu Yudu

張琳，沈州人。 Zhang Lin was a native of Shenzhou.

初，天祚之敗於女直也，意謂蕭奉先不知兵，乃召琳付以東征事。 Earlier, after Tianzuo's defeats at the hands of the Jurchen, he concluded that Xiao Fengxian knew nothing of warfare and summoned Lin to entrust him with the eastern campaign.

琳以舊制，凡軍國大計，漢人不與，辭之。 Lin cited the old rule that Han men were excluded from major military and state decisions, and declined.

上不允，琳奏曰：「前日之敗，失於輕舉。 The emperor would not accept his refusal. Lin memorialized, "Our recent defeats came from acting rashly.

及中京陷，天祚幸雲中，留琳與李處溫佐魏國王淳守南京。 When Central Capital fell, Tianzuo moved to Yunzhong and left Lin and Li Chuwen behind to assist Prince Chun of Wei in holding Nanjing.

處溫父子召琳，欲立淳為帝，琳曰：「王雖帝胄，初無上命； Chuwen and his son summoned Lin, intending to install Chun as emperor. Lin said, "Though the prince is of imperial blood, there has been no order from above;

琳雖有難色，亦勉從之。 Though Lin looked troubled, he reluctantly went along.

淳既稱帝，諸將咸居權要，琳獨守太師，十日一朝，平章軍國大事。 Once Chun had taken the imperial title, the generals all held the key posts of power. Lin alone retained the title grand preceptor, attending court once every ten days in name to oversee military and state affairs.

琳由是郁悒而卒。 Lin died soon afterward, worn down by resentment.

張琳足足守位，余睹反覆自困，則又何足議哉！ Zhang Lin merely clung to his office, and Yudu, shifting this way and that, brought ruin on himself—what more is there to say of either!
