桂清至蘇州，巡撫徐有壬拒勿納，疏劾其棄城喪師狀。 Guiqing reached Suzhou, but Governor Xu Youren refused him entry and memorialized impeaching him for abandoning the city and losing the army.

蘇州亦陷，有壬殉之，遺疏再劾桂清，詔褫職逮京治罪。 Suzhou also fell; Youren died defending it and in a dying memorial again impeached Guiqing; an edict stripped his rank and ordered him brought to the capital for trial.

大學士卓秉恬薦之，命繕進圖說，偕郎中文康、徐有壬赴天津，監造地雷、火機等器，試之皆驗。 Grand Secretary Zhuo Bingtian recommended him to the throne. He was ordered to prepare illustrated specifications and, together with the bureau directors Wen Kang and Xu Youren, went to Tianjin to oversee the production of land mines, ignition devices, and other weapons—all of which passed trial.
