十五年，大學士熊賜履票本有誤，改寫草簽，既又毀去。 In Kangxi 15 (1676) Grand Secretary Xiong Cilü's draft memorial was faulty; he rewrote it on a slip and then destroyed the slip.

索額圖與大學士巴泰、杜立德等疏劾，賜履坐罷歸。 Songgotu joined Grand Secretaries Batai and Du Lide in impeaching him, and Cilü was dismissed and sent home.

獨其弟秉義文行兼優，原任禮部尚書熊賜履理學醇儒，乞立即召用，以佐盛治。 Only his younger brother Bingyi is outstanding in learning and conduct; former Minister of Rites Xiong Cilu is a true Neo-Confucian master—I urge that he be recalled immediately to help perfect the reign.

如是數年，匯分成帙，而大學士熊賜履續奉監修之命，檄取傳稿以進，玉書、廷敬暨臣皆未參閲。 After several years the biographies were assembled, but Grand Secretary Xiong Cilü, who had succeeded to the supervising post, requisitioned the draft biographies for submission without Zhang Yushu, Chen Tingjing, or myself having reviewed them.

不獨臣爲然，前入直諸臣，如熊賜履、葉方靄、張玉書、孫在豐、王士禎、硃彝尊等，近今同事諸臣，如陳廷敬、徐乾學、王鴻緒、張英、勵杜訥等，莫不皆然。 Nor was I alone: earlier men who served in the direct studios—Xiong Cilü, Ye Fang'ai, Zhang Yushu, Sun Zaifeng, Wang Shizhen, Zhu Yizun—and recent colleagues such as Chen Tingjing, Xu Qianxue, Wang Hongxu, Zhang Ying, and Li Dun'e all followed the same rule.

大學士熊賜履以誤擬旨罷，復起為吏部尚書。 Grand Secretary Xiong Cilu had been dismissed for drafting an erroneous rescript, but was later restored and appointed minister of personnel.

翔麟疏劾：「賜履竊講學虛聲，前因票擬錯誤，嚼毀草簽，卸過同官。 Xianglin impeached him in a memorial: "Cilu cultivates an empty reputation as a scholar-official. When he once drafted a mistaken rescript, he chewed up the draft slip and shifted blame onto a colleague.

其弟賜瓚包攬捐納，奉旨傳問，賜履不求請處分，猶泰然踞六卿之上。 His younger brother Cizan monopolized the sale of offices; when summoned for questioning by imperial order, Cilu made no request for punishment and still sits complacently above the six ministers.

賜履雅負清望，良棟功臣，雲翮功臣子，翔麟論列無所避，以是得直聲。 Though Cilu enjoyed a long-standing reputation for integrity, Liangdong was a meritorious general, and Yunyi the son of one, Xianglin criticized them all without hesitation and thereby earned a reputation for upright candor.

俄又劾賜履及侍郎趙士麟亂銓政，條列以上。 Shortly afterward he again impeached Cilu and Vice Minister Zhao Shilin for corrupting the appointment system, submitting a detailed bill of particulars.

若德格勒、紫芝、重光忤明珠，愷曾彈李光地，翔麟論熊賜履、趙良棟，遐昌抗託合齊，雖所糾繩賢不肖不同，謇謇匪躬，不為名懾，不為勢撓，謚為「遺直」，殆無愧歟？ Degele, Zizhi, and Chongguang offended Mingzhu; Kaiceng impeached Li Guangdi; Xianglin criticized Xiong Cilu and Zhao Liangdong; Xiachang resisted Tuoheqi—though their targets differed in worth, all were upright and devoted to duty, unafraid of reputation and unbowed by power; styled "Remaining Upright," can they scarcely be said to fall short of that title?
