父拔剌，三歲居父母喪，毀瘠過甚，養於家奴奚列阿不。 His father Bala, at age three while in mourning for his parents, wasted away excessively and was raised by the household slave Xilie Abu.

重熙初，興宗獵奚山，過拔剌所居，奚列阿不言於近臣，拔剌得見上。 Early in the Chongxi reign, Emperor Xingzong hunted in the Xi mountains and passed Bala's dwelling. Xilie Abu spoke to close ministers, and Bala was brought before the emperor.
