紀益州刺史蕭撝不敢戰，遂嬰城自守。 Xiao Hui, Ji's governor of Yi Province, dared not give battle and shut himself inside the city walls.

撝前後戰數十合，皆為迥所破。 Xiao Hui fought dozens of engagements and was beaten every time by Yuchi Jiong.

撝與紀子宜都王肅，及其文武官屬，詣軍門請見，迥以禮接之。 Xiao Hui came with Xiao Ji's son, Prince Su of Yidu, and his civil and military staff to the camp gate to surrender; Yuchi Jiong received them with full courtesy.

旣入成都，蕭撝問迥軍中委曲，棠不對。 Once he entered Chengdu, Xiao Hui questioned him about Jiong's army; Tang would not answer.

撝乃苦笞辱之，冀獲其實。 Hui then cruelly flogged and humiliated him, hoping to force out the truth.

撝不能得其要指，遂害之。 Hui could not obtain what he sought and therefore killed him.
