英兵犯浙江，定海、鎮海及寧波府城相繼陷，裕謙死事，命為揚威將軍，督師往剿，都統哈哴阿、提督胡超為參贊，尋易侍郎文蔚、都統特依順副之。 When the British invaded Zhejiang and Dinghai, Zhenhai, and Ningbo fell one after another, Yu Qian died in the fighting. Yijing was named Campaign General to lead the punitive force, with Ha'er'a and Hu Chao as deputies; before long Wen Wei and Te Yishun replaced them.

前泗州知州張應云獻策規复寧波，奕經、文蔚皆然之，遂令總理前敵營務。 Zhang Yingyun, former prefect of Sizhou, proposed a plan to retake Ningbo; Yijing and Wen Wei both agreed, and put him in charge of front-line operations.

應云請急進，遂駐慈谿東關，文蔚分屯長谿嶺，令提督段永福、余步雲等趨寧波，游擊劉天保趨鎮海，副將硃貴駐大寶山，而應云率所募義勇駐駱駝橋，為諸軍策應，約於正月晦數路並舉。 Zhang Yingyun pressed for a quick advance. The army halted at Cixi's East Pass; Wen Wei held Changxi Ridge. Duan Yongfu, Yu Buyun, and others were sent toward Ningbo; Liu Tianbao toward Zhenhai; Zhu Gui took Great Treasure Hill; Zhang Yingyun camped at Camel Bridge with his hired militia to coordinate the columns. They planned a multi-pronged attack on the last day of the first month.

文蔚聞敗亦退，軍資器械棄失殆盡。 Hearing of the defeat, Wen Wei withdrew as well, leaving nearly all supplies and weapons behind.

文蔚，費莫氏，滿洲正藍旗人。 Wen Wei, of the Feimo clan, belonged to the Manchu Plain Blue Banner.

於是辱國之將軍奕山、奕經，參贊文蔚，總督牛鑑，提督餘步雲，先後就逮，步雲伏法。 The disgraced generals Yishan and Yijing, staff officer Wenwei, Governor-General Niu Jian, and Provincial Commander Yu Buyun were arrested in turn; Buyun was executed.

'皇上之於琦善，殆其類是，而今且以三品頂戴用為熱河都統矣，且用奕經為葉爾羌幫辦大臣，文蔚為古城領隊大臣矣。 Perhaps the Emperor's treatment of Qishan was of that kind—yet now he was appointed Rehe lieutenant-general with third-rank insignia, Yijing was made Yarkand assistant commissioner, and Wenwei leading commissioner at Gucheng.

奕經之罪，雖較琦善稍減，文蔚之罪，較奕經又減。 Yijing's guilt was somewhat less than Qishan's, and Wenwei's somewhat less than Yijing's.

倘俯採輿論，孰不切齒琦善為罪魁，誰不疾首於奕山、奕經、牛鑑、文蔚，而以為投畀之不容緩？ If Your Majesty heeded public opinion, who would not denounce Qishan as the chief culprit, or demand that Yishan, Yijing, Niu Jian, and Wenwei be cast out without delay?

疏上，宣宗嘉之，諭曰：「朕無知人之明，以致琦善、奕經、文蔚諸人喪師失律，惟有反躬自責，不欲諉罪臣工。 When the memorial reached the throne, the Daoguang Emperor praised it and said: "I lacked the wisdom to judge men, and so Qishan, Yijing, Wenwei, and others lost armies and broke discipline. I can only blame myself and will not shift guilt onto my officials.
