以過從友人飲噱，為韋執誼密奏，貶虔州掾曹，復為考功員外郎裴垍善其應對機捷，遷考功郎中、集賢院學士，轉給事中。 He drank and jested too freely with friends; Wei Zhiyi secretly memorialized against him and he was demoted to a clerical post in Qianzhou. Later, as vice director of merit evaluation, he impressed Pei Ji with his quick wit and rose to director of merit evaluation, academician of the Academy of Scholarly Worthies, and Drafting Attendant.
