崔增年陳訴，所司以昂、收故，崔遂獲免。 Cui added years to her age and submitted a petition; the responsible office, because of Ang and Shou, therefore exempted Cui.

上幸歸彥家，召魏收對御作詔草，欲加右丞相。 The emperor visited Guiyan's home and summoned Wei Shou to draft an edict in his presence — intending to add the title right chancellor.

收謂元海曰：「至尊以右丞相登位，今為歸彥威名太盛，故出之，豈可復加此號。」 Shou said to Yuanhai, "His Majesty took the throne as right chancellor. Guiyan's fame is too great — that is why he is being sent away. How can we give him that title again?"

既居樞要，又以盧元明代收為中書郎，由是收銜之。 Once he held a pivotal post, he also had Lu Yuanming replace Shou as secretariat gentleman — from this Shou bore a grudge.

及收聘梁，過徐州，㥄備刺史鹵簿而送之，使人相聞魏曰：「勿怪儀衛多，稽古之力也。」 When Shou went on a mission to Liang and passed through Xu Province, Ling sent him off with a governor's full train of insignia and had a man tell Wei, "Do not wonder at the many guards — it is the power of classical learning."

收報曰：「白崔徐州，建義之勳，何稽古之有！」 Shou replied, "Tell Governor Cui of Xu: merit in raising the righteous cause — what has that to do with classical learning!"

收乘宿憾，故以挫之。 Shou seized on an old resentment and used the occasion to humiliate him.

㥄素與魏收不協，收既專典國史，㥄恐被惡言，乃悅之曰：「昔有班固，今則魏子。」 Ling had long been at odds with Wei Shou; once Shou came to monopolize the national history, Ling feared slander and flattered him, saying, "In old times there was Ban Gu; today there is Master Wei."

收笑而憾不釋。 Shou smiled, yet his resentment did not lift.

The emperor went down the roster, charging each man with some fault, until he came to Ang and said, "Cui Ang is a straight minister; Wei Shou is a man of letters — brothers-in-law, both of you are excused."

魏收撰《魏書》成，松年有謗言，文宣怒，禁止之，仍加杖罰。 When Wei Shou completed the Book of Wei, Songnian spoke against it; Gao Yang was furious, had him imprisoned, and had him beaten.

壬申，史館上言：「伏見北齊文士魏收著《後魏書》，於時自魏太武之初，至於北齊，書不獲就，乃大征百官家傳，刊總斟酌，隨條甄舉，搜訪遺亡，數年之間，勒為一代典籍，編在北史，固非虛言。 On renshen the Historiography Office memorialized: "Citing Wei Shou’s 《History of Later Wei》, unable to finish from Taiwu to Northern Qi, he gathered officials’ genealogies, sifted and recovered lost material, and within years produced a classic now preserved in the Northern History.

收時在晉陽，乃同其作，論敍伯茂，其十字云：「臨風想玄度，對酒思公榮。」 Shou was then at Jinyang and contributed his own piece on Bomao; its ten-character line read, "Facing the wind I think of Xuandu; over wine I think of Gongrong."

正光五年，南、北二秦城人莫折念生、韓祖香、張長命相繼構逆，僉以州城之人莫不勁勇，同類悉反，宜先收其器械。 In the fifth year of Zhengguang, Mo She Niansheng, Han Zuxiang, and Zhang Changming led successive rebellions among the townspeople of the two Qin provinces. Officials agreed that the capital's inhabitants were fierce fighters and that their clansmen had already risen in revolt, so their arms should be seized first.

二子，收、祚。 He had two sons: Shou and Zuo.

收字伯起，小字佛助。 Shou, styled Boqi, childhood name Fozhu.

滎陽鄭伯調之曰：「魏郎弄戟多少？」 Zheng Bo of Xingyang mocked him: "Young Wei, how much do you really know about handling a spear?"

收慚，遂折節讀書。 Deeply embarrassed, Shou turned to serious study.

初以父功除太學博士，及尒朱榮於河陰濫害朝士，收亦在圍中，以日晏獲免。 He first received appointment as Erudite of the Imperial Academy through his father's service. When Erzhu Rong massacred court officials at Heyin, Shou was caught in the roundup but spared because nightfall had come.

吏部尚書李神儁重收才學，奏授司徒記室參軍。 Li Shenjun, Director of Personnel, admired Shou's talents and recommended him for appointment as secretary in the Office of the Minister over the Masses.

前廢帝立，妙簡近侍，詔試收為封禪書，收下筆便就，不立草稿，文將千言，所改無幾。 When the former deposed emperor took the throne, he selected close attendants carefully and tested Shou by ordering him to compose a fengshan proclamation. Shou wrote it straight off without a draft—nearly a thousand characters, with hardly a correction.
