舉永樂二年進士，改庶吉士，與曾棨、王英等二十八人同讀書文淵閣。 In Yongle two he passed the metropolitan examination, became a Hanlin bachelor, and with Zeng Qi, Wang Ying, and twenty-eight others studied in the Wenyuan Pavilion.

與金溪王英齊名，人稱「二王」，以居地目直曰「東王」，英曰「西王」。 He was famed with Wang Ying of Jinxi as the "Two Wangs," Zhi called the Eastern Wang and Ying the Western Wang from where they lived.
