然暴橫少恩，杖前部尉以逞憾，觀察使王緯以聞，德宗不省。 Yet he was brutal and unforgiving: he had a former subordinate commandant flogged to settle a personal score. Observation commissioner Wang Wei reported it, but Emperor Dezong paid no heed.

俄遷大理卿，為陜虢觀察使，慢言謝緯曰：「始足下劾我，三進官矣！」 Before long he became chief minister of the Court of Judicial Review and observation commissioner of Shan-Guo. He taunted Wei: "When you first impeached me, I had only just begun—and look, I've been promoted three times since!"
