大澂憤湘軍盡覆，拔劍欲自裁，王同愈在側，格阻之，同愈以編修參大澂軍事也。 Enraged that the Hunan army had been wiped out, Dacheng drew his sword to kill himself; Wang Tongyu, who was serving on his staff as a Hanlin compiler, was at his side and stopped him.
