曾祖起，官至左僕射、山南西道節度使，冊贈太尉，謚曰文懿，唐史有傳。 His great-grandfather Qi rose to Left Vice Director and military commissioner of the Shannan West circuit, was posthumously honored as grand marshal with the posthumous title Wenyi, and has a biography in the Tang histories.

長慶三年，侍郎王起言：「故事，禮部已放榜，而中書門下始詳覆。 In 823, Vice-Minister Wang Qi said: "By precedent the Ministry of Rites posted examination results before the Secretariat conducted its detailed review.

議者以起雖避嫌，然失貢職矣。 Critics replied that although Wang Qi was avoiding suspicion, he had neglected his proper duties as presenting officer.
