田悅連敗，走魏州，嬰城自守，諸道兵圍之，屢乏食，詔縱兼魏州四節度糧料使，軍儲稍給。 Tian Yue was repeatedly defeated and fled to Wei Prefecture, where he held the city under siege. Food ran short for the besieging armies, and Zong was appointed grain commissioner for the four circuits around Wei, gradually restoring supplies.

久之，移岳州。 After a long while he was transferred to Yue Prefecture.

泚悅其言，以休為宰相，判度支。 Ci was pleased with his words and made Xiu chancellor in charge of the treasury.

至東都，訪聞魏州田悅食糧兵凡七萬人，經綸素昧時機，先以符停其兵四萬人，令歸農畝。 When he reached the eastern capital he learned on inquiry that Tian Yue of Weizhou had grain-paid troops totaling seventy thousand men; Jinglun, who had never understood the times, first by writ halted forty thousand of his troops and ordered them back to the fields.

田悅偽順命，即依符罷之； Tian Yue feigned compliance and at once dismissed them according to the writ;

悅乃盡出家財衣服厚給之，各令還其部伍，自此人堅叛心，由是罷職。 Yue then gave out all his household wealth and clothing in generous gifts, had each return to his unit, and from this time men's hearts were set on rebellion; Jinglun was therefore removed from office.

未行，汴州將李靈曜阻兵，北結田承嗣，承嗣使侄悅將銳兵戍之。 Before Mian could take up the post, the Bianzhou general Li Lingyao rebelled and allied himself with Tian Chengsi to the north. Chengsi sent his nephew Tian Yue with elite troops to hold the city.

詔勉與李忠臣、馬燧等攻討，大破之，悅僅以身免。 An edict ordered Mian, Li Zhongchen, Ma Sui, and others to attack them. The rebels were routed and Tian Yue barely escaped with his life.
