齊人聞儋死，乃立故齊王建之弟田假為王，田角為相，田閒為將，以距諸侯。 When the people of Qi heard that Tian Dan had died, they installed Tian Jia, the younger brother of the former King Jian of Qi, as king, made Tian Jiao chancellor and Tian Jian general, and used them to resist the other lords.

相角亡走趙。 Chancellor Tian Jiao fled to Zhao.

角弟閒前救趙，因不敢歸。 Jiao's younger brother Tian Jian had earlier gone to aid Zhao and therefore did not dare return.

榮曰：「楚殺田假，趙殺角、閒，乃出兵。」 Tian Rong said, "Chu must kill Tian Jia and Zhao must kill Jiao and Jian—only then will I send troops."

趙亦不殺田角、田閒以市於齊。 Zhao likewise refused to kill Tian Jiao and Tian Jian in exchange for Qi's favor.

田假、田角、田閒於楚、趙，非手足戚，何故不殺？ Tian Jia, Tian Jiao, and Tian Jian are in Chu and Zhao. They are not close kin like hands and feet—why will they not kill them?

齊人聞王田儋死，乃立故齊王建之弟田假為齊王、田角為相、田間為將，以距諸侯。 When the people of Qi heard that King Tian Dan was dead, they set up Tian Jia, younger brother of the former Qi king Jian, as king of Qi; appointed Tian Jiao chancellor; and made Tian Jian general, so as to resist the feudal lords.

齊相角亡走趙； The Chancellor of Qi, Tian Jiao, fled to Zhao.

角弟田閒前求救趙，因留不敢歸。 Jiao's younger brother Tian Jian had earlier gone to Zhao to seek aid and remained there, not daring to return.

田榮曰：「使楚殺田假，趙殺田角、田閒，閒肯出兵。」 Tian Rong replied, "Have Chu execute Tian Jia, and have Zhao execute Tian Jiao and Tian Jian—only then will I send troops."

趙亦不殺田角、田閒以市於齊。 Zhao likewise refused to execute Tian Jiao and Tian Jian as a concession to Qi.

今田假、田角、田閒於楚、趙，非直手足戚也，何故不殺？ Now Tian Jia, Tian Jiao, and Tian Jian are sheltered in Chu and Zhao. They are no mere sting to hand or foot—why will you not kill them?
