元和中，田弘正討李師道，令憲誠以先鋒四千人濟河，累下其城柵。 During the Yuanhe era, when Tian Hongzheng marched against Li Shidao, he sent Xiancheng with four thousand vanguard troops across the river; they took one enemy stockade after another.

鎮州王承宗死，弘正自魏移領鎮州。 When Wang Chengzong of Zhenzhou died, Hongzheng left Wei to assume control of Zhenzhou.

居數月，為王廷湊所殺，遂以兵叛。 Within a few months Hongzheng was murdered by Wang Tingcou, who then rose in armed rebellion.

朝廷以弘正子布為魏博節度使，領兵討伐，俾復父冤。 The court appointed Hongzheng's son Bu military governor of Wei-Bo and sent him to campaign against the rebels so he might avenge his father.

進滔客寄於魏，委質軍門，事節度使田弘正。 Jintao had come to Wei as a guest and entered military service under the military governor Tian Hongzheng.

弘正奉詔討鄆州，破李師道，時進滔為衙內都知兵馬使，以功授兼侍御史。 When Hongzheng campaigned against Yan at the court's order and defeated Li Shidao, Jintao was commissioner of military affairs within the yamen and was made concurrent Attending Censor for his service.

後田弘正以魏歸，吉甫知魏人謂田進誠才，而唐州乃蔡喉衿，請拔進誠為刺史，以臨賊境，且慰魏心。 Later when Tian Hongzheng brought Wei back to allegiance, Jifu knew the people of Wei admired Tian Jincheng's ability, and that Tangzhou was the throat of Cai territory; he asked to appoint Jincheng prefect of Tangzhou to face the rebels and reassure Wei.

烏重胤守河陽，吉甫以汝州捍蔽東都，聯唐、許，當蔡西面，兵寡不足憚寇，而河陽乃魏博之津，弘正歸國，則為內鎮，不宜戍重兵示不信，請徙屯汝州。 Wu Chongyin held Heyang; Jifu argued that Ruzhou shielded the eastern capital, linked Tang and Xu, and faced Cai on the west, and with few troops could not deter the enemy; yet Heyang was Weibo's strategic crossing—with Hongzheng's return it became an inner command and should not be heavily garrisoned as a sign of distrust; he asked to move the garrison to Ruzhou.

田弘正效魏、博六州於朝，憲宗遣度宣諭，弘正知度為帝高選，故郊迎趨跽受命，且請遍至屬州，布揚天子德澤，魏人由是歡服。 When Tian Hongzheng surrendered the six Wei and Bo prefectures to the throne, Emperor Xianzong dispatched Du to announce the imperial will. Knowing that Du was the emperor's chosen envoy, Hongzheng met him outside the city, knelt to receive his instructions, and asked him to visit every subordinate prefecture to proclaim the Son of Heaven's grace. The people of Wei thereupon accepted the new order with relief.

乃詔宣武、義成、武寧、橫海四節度會田弘正致討。 The emperor ordered the Xuanwu, Yicheng, Wuning, and Henghai commissioners to join Tian Hongzheng in a coordinated attack.

弘正請自黎陽濟，合諸節度兵，宰相皆謂宜。 Hongzheng proposed crossing at Liyang and combining all the circuit armies. The chief ministers all approved.
