滕曇恭 Teng Tangong

滕曇恭，豫章南昌人也。 Teng Tangong came from Nanchang in Yuzhang.

曇恭歷訪不能得，銜悲哀切。 Tangong searched everywhere but could not obtain any, and he held grief in his heart with deep sorrow.

俄值一桑門問其故，曇恭具以告。 Soon he encountered a Buddhist monk who asked the reason, and Tangong told him everything.

曇恭拜謝，因捧瓜還，以薦其母。 Tangong bowed in thanks, then carried the melon home and presented it to his mother.

及父母卒，曇恭水漿不入口者旬日，感慟嘔血，絕而復蘇。 When his parents died, Tangong took neither water nor gruel for ten days; overcome with grief, he vomited blood, lost consciousness, and then revived.

曇恭家人大小，咸共禮拜，久之乃滅，遠近道俗咸傳之。 All the members of Tangong's household, great and small, bowed in worship together; after a long while it vanished, and Daoists, Buddhists, and laypeople far and near all passed on the story.

太守王僧度引曇恭爲功曹，固辭不就。 Administrator Wang Sengdu summoned Tangong to serve as merit officer, but he firmly declined and did not take the post.

王儉時隨僧度在郡，號爲滕曾子。 Wang Jian was then in the commandery with Sengdu and called him Teng Zengzi.

天監元年，陸璉奉使巡行風俗，表言其狀。 In Tianjian 1, Lu Lian received an imperial mission to inspect local customs and submitted a memorial describing Tangong's conduct.

曇恭有子三人，皆有行業。 Tangong had three sons, all of whom had virtuous conduct.
