乙巳，太師、常山王演矯詔誅尚書令楊愔、尚書右僕射燕子獻、領軍大將軍可朱渾天和、侍中宋欽道、散騎常侍鄭子默。 On the yisi day Prince Yan of Changshan, grand preceptor, forged an edict and had executed Yang Yin, director of the Masters of Writing; Yanzi Xian, right vice-director; Kezhuhun Tianhe, commanding general of the palace guards; Song Qindao, palace attendant; and Zheng Zimo, attendant of the scattered cavalry.

及承大位，楊愔、燕子獻、宋欽道等同輔。 When he came to the throne, Yang Yin, Yanzi Xian, Song Qindao, and others served jointly as his advisers.

They asked that he be made grand preceptor, governor of Sizhou, and recorder of the Masters of Writing;

坐定，酒數行，執尚書令楊愔、右僕射燕子獻、領軍可朱渾天和、侍中宋欽道等於坐。 They had barely settled in and taken a few cups when he seized Chief Minister Yang Yin, Right Vice Director Yanzi Xian, Commander-in-Chief Kezhuhun Tianhe, Palace Attendant Song Qindao, and the rest where they sat.

母名輕霄，本穆子倫婢也，轉入侍中宋欽道家，姦私而生后，莫知氏族，或云后即欽道女子也。 Her mother Qingxiao had been a maid to Muzilun, then entered the household of Attendant-in-Ordinary Song Qindao, where an illicit affair produced the future empress; her lineage was unknown, though some said she was Song Qindao's own daughter.

欽道婦妬，黥輕霄面為「宋」字。 Song Qindao's wife, in jealousy, branded Qingxiao's face with the character "Song."

欽道伏誅，黃花因此入宮，有幸於後主，宮內稱為舍利太監。 After Song was executed, Huanghua entered the palace by that connection, won Houzhu's favor, and was known within the inner quarters as Director Sheli.

宋欽道面奏帝，稱二叔威權旣重，宜速去之。 Song Qindao reported to the emperor in person that the two uncles' power was already too great and they should be removed at once.

於是愔及天和、欽道皆被拳杖亂毆擊，頭面血流，各十人持之。 Thereupon Yang Yin, Tianhe, and Qindao were beaten with fists and clubs until blood ran from their heads and faces; ten men held each of them.

宋欽道，廣平人，魏吏部尚書弁孫也。 Song Qindao was from Guangping, grandson of Wei minister of personnel Song Bian.

欽道本文法吏，不甚諳識古今，凡有疑事，必詢於子默。 Qindao was by training a legal clerk, not deeply versed in history; whenever he was unsure he asked Zimo.

欽道又遷秘書監。 Qindao was later promoted to director of the secretariat library.

初為太原公東閣祭酒，與宋欽道特相友愛，欽道每師事之。 He first served as eastern-pavilion libationer to the prince of Taiyuan and was especially close to Song Qindao, who treated him as his teacher.

欽道復舊與濟南款狎，共相引致，無所不言。 Qindao renewed his old closeness with the prince of Jinan; they drew each other on and held nothing back.
