世言晉王之將終也，以三矢賜莊宗而告之曰：「梁，吾仇也，燕王吾所立，契丹與吾約為兄弟，而皆背晉以歸梁。 Men say that as the Prince of Jin lay dying he gave Zhuangzong three arrows and said: “Liang is my foe; the Prince of Yan I raised up; the Khitan and I were sworn brothers—yet all turned from Jin to Liang.

與爾三矢，爾其無忘乃父之志！」 Take these three arrows—do not forget your father’s charge!”

方其係燕父子以組，函梁君臣之首，入于太廟，還矢先王而告以成功，其意氣之盛，可謂壯哉！ When he had bound the Yan princes with cord, cased the heads of Liang’s court, entered the Grand Temple, and given back the arrows to his father’s shade with news of triumph—what pride, what splendor!

晉王兵擊王行瑜，承業數往來兵間，晉王喜其為人。 When the Prince of Jin campaigned against Wang Xingyu, Chengye shuttled among the armies; the Prince of Jin took a liking to him.

晉王憐承業，不忍殺，匿之斛律寺。 The Prince of Jin spared Chengye and hid him at Hulu Temple.

晉王病且革，以莊宗屬承業曰：「以亞子累公等。」 As the Prince of Jin lay dying he entrusted Zhuangzong to Chengye: “I place Yazi in your hands.”

承業起，持莊宗衣而泣，曰：「臣受先王顧托之命，誓雪家國之讎。 Chengye seized his sleeve and wept: “Your father entrusted you to me—I swore to avenge our house and state.

今日為王惜庫物而死，死不愧於先王矣！」 If I die today guarding this storehouse, I die with a clear conscience before your father!”

臣，唐家一老奴耳，誠願見大王之成功，然後退身田里，使百官送出洛東門，而令路人指而嘆曰『此本朝敕使，先王時監軍也』，豈不臣主俱榮哉？」 I am only an old slave of Tang. Let me see you triumph, then go home while officials see me out Luoyang’s east gate and folk point and say, “That was the late king’s commissioner”—would not we both be glorified?”

其後，梁兵攻仁恭，仁恭遣居翰從晉王攻梁潞州以牽其兵，晉遂取潞州，以居翰為昭義監軍。 Later, when Liang attacked Rengong, Rengong sent Juhan with the Prince of Jin against Liang's Luzhou to draw off Liang's army; Jin took Luzhou and appointed Juhan Zhaoyi army supervisor.
