父之平，倜儻有志略，召補文德主帥。 His father Zhiping was bold and strategic, and was summoned to serve as commander of the Wende guards.

梁普通中眾軍北伐，之平隨都督夏侯亶克定渦、潼，以功封費縣侯。 During Liang's Putong era the armies campaigned north. Zhiping followed Commander Xiahou Dan in taking Guo and Tong, and for that merit was enfeoffed as Marquis of Fei county.

會衡州部民相聚寇抄，詔以之平為假節、超武將軍、都督衡州五郡征討諸軍事。 When Hengzhou locals gathered to raid and plunder, an edict made Zhiping acting bearer of the staff, General of Surpassing Martiality, and commander of the campaigns in Hengzhou's five commanderies.

及之平至，即皆平殄，梁武帝甚嘉賞之。 When Zhiping arrived, he put them all down at once, and Emperor Wu of Liang praised and rewarded him highly.

世祖即位，除光祿大夫，慈訓宮衛尉，並不就，乃築山穿池，植以卉木，居處其中，有終焉之志。 When Emperor Wen came to the throne, Zhiping was appointed grand master of glorious happiness and chamberlain for the guards of Cixun Palace, but accepted neither. Instead he built hills, dug ponds, planted flowers and trees, and settled there, meaning to end his days in retirement.

天康元年卒，贈仁威將軍、光祿大夫，諡曰僖子。 He died in Tiankang year 1. He was posthumously made General of Benevolent Prestige and grand master of glorious happiness, with the posthumous title Xizi.
