時盧思道直中書省，因問思道曰：「我此日多務，都不見崔瞻文藻，卿與其親通，理當相悉。」 At the time Lu Sidao was on duty in the secretariat; he therefore asked Sidao, "These days I am overwhelmed with affairs and have not seen Cui Zhan's literary talent at all; you are on intimate terms with him and ought by rights to know him well."

思道答曰：「崔瞻文詞之美，實有可稱，但舉世重其風流，所以才華見沒。」 Sidao answered, "Cui Zhan's literary phrasing is truly praiseworthy, but the world values his romantic air, and therefore his talent is overshadowed."

范陽盧思道是其舅子，嘗贈詩云：「水衡稱逸人，潘楊有世親，形骸預冠蓋，心思出風塵。」 Lu Sidao of Fan Yang was his nephew by marriage; once he sent a poem: "The Director of Water Balances calls him a recluse; Pan and Yang are kin by marriage through the generations; his body already rides with caps and coaches, yet his mind ranges beyond the dust of the world."

昂嘗持元禮數篇詩示盧思道，乃謂思道云：「看元禮比來詩詠，亦當不減魏收？」 Ang once showed several of Yuan Li's poems to Lu Sidao and said, "Look at Yuan Li's recent poems — are they not the equal of Wei Shou?"

明日丞相西閤祭酒盧思道謂晞曰：「昨被召已朱顏，得不以魚鳥致怪？」 Next day Lu Sidao, libationer of the chancellor's Western Pavilion, said to Xi, "When you were summoned yesterday your face was already flushed — surely the fish and birds are not to blame for the offense?"

行恭少頗驕恣，文遙令與范陽盧思道交遊。 Xinggong was rather proud in youth; Wenyao had him keep company with Lu Sidao of Fanyang.

文遙嘗謂思道云：「小兒比日微有所知，是大弟之力，然白擲劇飲，甚得師風。」 Wenyao once told Sidao, "The boy has learned a little lately—your doing as elder brother; but his dice-playing and hard drinking are very much in your master's style."

思道答云：「郎辭情俊邁，自是克荷堂構，而白擲劇飲，亦天性所得。」 Sidao answered, "Your son's eloquence is sharp and lofty—he can surely uphold the family hall; but dice and deep cups are also his nature."
