乙卯，以司徒、平秦王歸彥為太傅，以尚書右僕射、趙郡王叡為尚書令，以太尉尉粲為太保，以尚書令段韶為大司馬，以豐州刺史婁叡為司空，乙太傅、平陽王淹為太宰，以太保、彭城王浟為太師、錄尚書事，以冀州刺史、博陵王濟為太尉，以中書監、任城王潛為尚書左僕射，以幷州刺史斛律光為右僕射，封孝昭皇帝太子百年為樂陵郡王。 On the yimao day, the emperor reshuffled the highest offices: Prince Guiyan of Pingqin, Minister over the Masses, became Grand Tutor; Prince Rui of Zhao Commandery, Right Vice Director of the Secretariat, became Chief Minister of the Secretariat; Grand Commandant Wei Can became Grand Guardian; Duan Shao became Grand Marshal; Lou Rui became Minister of Works; Prince Yan of Pingyang became Grand Minister; Prince You of Pengcheng became Grand Preceptor and Recorder of the Affairs of the Secretariat; Prince Ji of Boling became Grand Commandant; Prince Qian of Rencheng became Left Vice Director of the Secretariat; Hulu Guang became Right Vice Director of the Secretariat; and Emperor Xiaozhao's crown prince Bainian was made Prince of Leling Commandery.

秋七月，太宰、冀州刺史、平秦王歸彥據州反，詔大司馬段韶、司空婁叡討擒之。 In the seventh month of autumn, Grand Preceptor, Inspector of Ji Province, and Prince Gao Guiyan of Pingqin seized the province in rebellion. An edict ordered Grand Marshal Duan Shao and Minister of Works Lou Rui to suppress and capture him.

甲辰，太尉婁叡大破周軍於軹關，擒楊檦。 On the jiachen day, Grand Commandant Lou Rui routed the Northern Zhou army at Zhiguan Pass and took Yang Biao prisoner.

夏四月戊午，大將軍、東安王婁叡坐事免。 In summer, in the fourth month, on wuwu, Lou Rui, Grand General and Prince of Dong'an, was dismissed over an affair.

及周師寇逼，詔峻以本官與東安王婁叡、武興王普等自鄴率衆赴河陽禦之。 When Zhou armies pressed the border, an edict ordered Jun, in his existing office, together with the Prince of Dong'an Lou Rui, the Prince of Wuxing Pu, and others to lead troops from Ye to Heyang to resist them.

車駕幸洛陽，以懸瓠為周人所據，復詔峻為南道行臺，與婁叡率軍南討。 The imperial carriage went to Luoyang; because Xuanhuo had been taken by the Zhou, Jun was again ordered as traveling staff on the southern route with Lou Rui to lead troops south in campaign.

婁叡，字佛仁，武明皇後兄子也。 Lou Rui, styled Foren, was a nephew of Empress Wuming.

叡少好弓馬，有武幹，為高祖帳內都督。 In youth Rui loved archery and horsemanship, showed martial talent, and served in Gaozu’s personal guard.

叡無器幹，唯以外戚貴幸，而縱情財色，為時論所鄙。 Rui had little talent and owed his rank only to kinship with the throne; he squandered himself on wealth and women, and contemporaries held him in contempt.

皇建初，封東安王。 At the opening of Huangjian he was made Prince of Dong’an.

高歸彥反於冀州，詔叡往平之。 When Gao Guiyan rebelled in Ji Province, Rui was ordered to suppress him.

周兵寇東關，叡率軍赴援，頻戰有功，擒周將楊檦等。 When Zhou troops threatened the eastern passes, Rui marched to their relief, won repeated victories, and captured the Zhou general Yang Biao and others.

叡在豫境，留停百餘日，侵削官私，專行非法，坐免官。 Rui lingered in Yu more than a hundred days, plundering public and private goods and acting with impunity, until he was dismissed.
