時梁崇義縱恣倨慢，朝廷將加討伐。 At that time Liang Chongyi was insolent and defiant; the court was preparing to send forces against him.

李希烈揣知之，上表數崇義過惡，請率先誅討。 Li Xilie divined their intent and submitted a memorial listing Chongyi's crimes, asking to take the lead in punishing him.

無幾，希烈既平崇義，果有不順之跡，上思承言，故驟加擢用。 Before long Xilie had pacified Chongyi and indeed showed signs of rebellion; the emperor recalled Cheng's warning and swiftly promoted him.

希烈既破崇義，擁兵襄州，遂有其地。 After Xilie defeated Chongyi he massed troops at Xiangzhou and thereupon held that territory.

會梁崇義反，乃授起復左衛大將軍，復還湖南，尋加散騎常侍李希烈反，遷江西道節度使、洪州刺史、兼御史大夫。 When Liang Chongyi rebelled, Li Gao was recalled from mourning as General of the Left Guard and sent back to Hunan; he was soon also made Regular Attendant Cavalier. When Li Xilie rebelled, he was transferred to military commissioner of the Jiangxi Circuit, prefect of Hong Prefecture, and concurrently Censor-in-Chief.

及田悅、李惟岳、李納、梁崇義拒命，舉天下兵討之，諸軍仰給京師。 When Tian Yue, Li Weiyue, Li Na, and Liang Chongyi rebelled, imperial armies marched on them and looked to the capital for every ration.

而李納、田悅兵守渦口，梁崇義搤襄、鄧，南北漕引皆絕，京師大恐。 Li Na and Tian Yue held Wokou; Liang Chongyi blocked Xiang and Deng. North and south supply lines collapsed and the capital panicked.

本名懷玉，至是賜今名，遂有淄、青、齊、海、登、萊、沂、密、德、棣十州，與田承嗣、薛嵩、李寶臣、梁崇義輔牙相倚。 Born Huaiyu, he now received the name Zhengji by imperial grant. He came to control ten prefectures—Zi, Qing, Qi, Hai, Deng, Lai, Yi, Mi, De, and Di—and stood shoulder to shoulder with the buffer lords Tian Chengsi, Xue Song, Li Baochen, and Liang Chongyi.

建中初，聞城汴州，乃約田悅、梁崇義、李惟嶽偕叛。 Early in the Jianzhong era (780–783), learning that the court was fortifying Bianzhou, he plotted with Tian Yue, Liang Chongyi, and Li Weiyue to rebel together.
