成帝末，隆奏封事言：「古老選諸侯入為公卿，以褒功德，宜徵定陶王使在國邸，以填萬方。」 Near the end of Emperor Cheng's reign, Long submitted a sealed memorial saying, "In ancient times, feudal lords were selected to enter court as dukes and ministers, in order to honor merit and virtue. The King of Dingtao should be summoned and made to stay in the state residence, thereby stabilizing all quarters."

其後上竟立定陶王為太子，隆遷翼州牧、穎川太守。 The emperor eventually established the King of Dingtao as crown prince; Long was promoted to Shepherd of Ji Province and Administrator of Yingchuan.

禮臣毛澄等援漢定陶、宋濮王故事，考孝宗，改稱王為「皇叔父興獻大王」，王妃為「皇叔母」。 Ritualists led by Mao Cheng cited Han Dingtao and Song Prince Pu, made Xiaozong the sacrificial father, and styled the prince "Imperial Uncle Father, Great King of Xingxian" and his consort "Imperial Aunt Mother."
