三十年，廣西巡撫柯逢時令廣西各州縣增募鄉勇八千人，給以毛瑟後膛槍，並令民間多築碉堡，共御外侮。 In the thirtieth year Guangxi Governor Ke Fengshi ordered every prefecture and county to raise eight thousand additional local braves, arm them with Mauser rifles, and urge the people to build more blockhouses against foreign aggression.
