沮渠夫人生齊郡順王簡。 Lady Juqu bore Jian, Prince Shun of Qi Commandery.

齊郡王簡，字叔亮。 Jian, Prince of Qi Commandery, was styled Shuliang.

簡性貌特類外祖。 In temperament and looks, Jian closely resembled his maternal grandfather.

高祖嘗與簡俱朝文明太后於皇信堂，簡居帝之右，行家人禮。 Gaozu once paid court to Empress Dowager Wenming with Jian at Huangxin Hall. Jian sat to the emperor's right, and they observed family rites.

高祖仁孝，以諸父零落，存者唯簡。 Gaozu was benevolent and filial; his uncles had died off, and only Jian remained.

每見，立以待之，俟坐，致敬問起居，停簡拜伏。 Whenever he saw Jian, he stood to wait for him; once Jian was seated, Gaozu respectfully asked after his health and prevented him from bowing prostrate.

簡性好酒，不能理公私之事。 Jian loved wine by nature and could not manage public or private affairs.

妻常氏，燕郡公常喜女也，文明太后以賜簡。 His wife, Lady Chang, was a daughter of Chang Xi, Duke of Yan Commandery, and Empress Dowager Wenming gave her to Jian.

性幹綜家事，頗節斷簡酒，乃至盜竊，求乞婢侍，卒不能禁。 She was naturally capable in managing household affairs and tried hard to limit Jian's drinking; he even stole and begged wine from maidservants and attendants, and in the end she could not stop him.

諡曰靈王。 He was posthumously named Prince Ling.

世宗時，改諡曰順。 In Shizong's time, the posthumous name was changed to Shun.

太安於若為從弟，非相後之義，廢之，以齊郡王子琛繼。 Taian was Ruo's younger cousin, which did not accord with the principles of succession, so he was removed and Chen, son of the Prince of Qi Commandery, succeeded instead.
