建武四年，州舉秀才，太尉徐孝嗣省其策，深善之，謂同坐曰：「董仲舒、華令思何以尚此，可謂後生之准也。 In Jianwu year 4 the province nominated him as xiucai. Grand Marshal Xu Xiaosi read his examination paper and praised it to his companions: "Not even Dong Zhongshu or Hua Lingsi would outshine this youth—he is the standard for his generation.
