又奉別詔，令共胡長粲輔遵太子，轉庶子。 By a separate edict he was to assist the crown prince with Hu Changcai and was transferred to heir-apparent subprefect.

從祖兄長粲。 His elder clan cousin was Changcan.

長粲少而敏悟，以外戚起家給事中，遷黃門侍郎。 Changcan was quick and perceptive in youth. As an imperial in-law, he began his career as palace attendant and was transferred to gentleman attendant at the Yellow Gate.

後主踐祚，長粲被勑與黃門馮子琮出入禁中，專典敷奏。 When the Later Sovereign ascended, Changcan was ordered, together with Yellow Gate attendant Feng Zicong, to enter and leave the palace precincts and handle the presentation of memorials.

於後定遠、文遙並出，唐邕專典外兵，綦連猛、高阿那肱別總武任，長粲常在左右，兼宣詔令，從幸晉陽。 Afterward Dingyuan and Wenyao were sent out, Tang Yong managed the external troops, Qilian Meng and Gao Anagong separately oversaw military duties, and Changcan remained constantly at the sovereign's side, proclaiming edicts and following him to Jinyang.

後主即位，富於春秋，庶事皆歸委長粲，長粲盡心毗奉，甚得名譽。 When the Later Sovereign took the throne, he was still young, so all affairs were entrusted to Changcan. Changcan devoted himself to supporting and serving him and gained a strong reputation.

長仁心欲入處機要之地，為執政不許，長仁疑長粲通謀，大以為恨。 Changren wanted to enter the key councils, but those in power would not permit it. Suspecting that Changcan had conspired against him, Changren deeply resented him.

遂言於太后，發其陰私，請出為州，後主不得已從焉。 He then spoke to the empress dowager, exposed Changcan's private misconduct, and asked that he be sent out to a province; the Later Sovereign had no choice but to agree.

除趙州刺史。 Changcan was appointed inspector of Zhaozhou.

及辭，長粲流涕，後主亦憫默。 When Changcan took leave, he wept, and the Later Sovereign too fell silent in pity.
