父是升，客遊京師，授經諸王邸，以名德稱。 His father Han Shisheng had lived in Beijing as a guest scholar, teaching the classics in princely households and earning a reputation for integrity.

崶父是升年八十，給假三月歸為壽。 His father Shisheng was eighty; he was granted three months' leave to go home and celebrate his birthday.

二十一年，丁父憂，服闋，以一品銜署刑部侍郎，尋補刑部尚書。 In 1816, after his father's death and mourning, he served as acting vice minister of punishments with first-rank insignia and soon became regular minister.
