于時濟陽江總、吳國顧野王、陸瓊、從弟瑜、河南褚玠、北地傅縡等，皆以才學之美，晨夕娛侍。 At that time Jiang Zong of Jiyang, Gu Yewang of Wu, Lu Qiong, his cousin Yu, Chu Jie of Henan, Fu Zai of Beidi, and others, all famed for learning, served the heir morning and evening as literary companions.

又數令共野王遞相策問，恆蒙賞激。 He was often ordered to question Gu Yewang in turn and always won praise and rewards.

顧野王字希馮，吳郡吳人也。 Gu Yewang, styled Xifeng, came from Wu in Wu commandery.

城王為揚州刺史，[2]野王及琅邪王褒並為賓客，王甚愛其才。 The Prince of Xuancheng was inspector of Yangzhou; [2] Gu Yewang and Wang Bao of Langye both served as his retainers, and the prince greatly valued their talents.

野王又好丹青，善圖寫，王於東府起齋，乃令野王畫古賢，命王褒書贊，時人稱為二絕。 Yewang also loved ink and color and was skilled at drawing. The prince built a studio in the eastern mansion, had Yewang paint the ancient worthies and Wang Bao write their praises—men of the time called the pair a double wonder.

史臣曰：蕭濟、陸瓊，俱以才學顯著，顧野王博極群典，傅縡聰警特達，並一代之英靈矣。 The historiographer says: Xiao Ji and Lu Qiong both shone for talent and learning; Gu Yewang mastered the canon; Fu Zai was brilliantly sharp—all spirits of an age.

先是時太學博士顧野王奉令撰《玉篇》，太宗嫌其書詳略未當，以愷博學，於文字尤善，使更與學士刪改。 Earlier, Erudite of the Imperial University Gu Yewang had been ordered to compile the Jade Chapters. Emperor Jianwen found the book's detail and brevity not quite right, and because Kai was broadly learned and especially skilled in written characters, had him revise it again with the academicians.
